MADRID

Map showing tourists attractions of Madrid City.

Madrid, has been populated since the Lower Palaeolithic era. Its capital in the early years was Toledo.
Around 1561 King Philip II made Madrid the capital city of his vast empire.
This capital city of Spain, is a cosmopolitan city that combines the most modern infrastructures and the status as an economic, financial, administrative and service centre, with a large cultural and artistic heritage, a legacy of centuries of exciting history.
Strategically located in the geographic centre of the Iberian Peninsula at an altitude of 646 m above sea level, Madrid has one of the most important historic centres of all the great European cities. This heritage merges seamlessly with the city's modern and convenient infrastructures, This condition, together with all the drive of a dynamic and open society –as well as high-spirited and friendly– have made this metropolis one of the great capitals and tourist attraction of the World.
Art and culture play a key role in Madrid's cultural life. And that forms one of the major attractions of this wonderful city.It has over 60 museums among them, seven are about Art ;seven about History seven about Science and others on miscellaneous subjects .All these Museums cover every field of human knowledge. They include the Prado Museum, one of the world's most important art galleries; the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, with over 800 paintings ranging from primitive Flemish artists through to the avant-garde movements. And the Reina Sofía National Art Centre, dedicated to contemporary Spanish art and containing works by Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí and Juan Gris, among others.
There are numerous Palaces major amongst them are The Royal Palace an imposing building dating from the 17th century featuring a mixture of Baroque and classicist styles.Another one is Cebeles Palace.
There are about 10 Plazas or Main Squares They are Plaza Prerta de Sol.Plaza de Cibeles,Plaza de la Villa, Plaza del Callao,Plaza de España,Plaza Santa Ana,  Plaza Oriente,Plaza de Ramales,Plaza de Paja,Plaza Mayor, important among them is  Plaza Mayor Plaza, the de Oriente square which is near the Royal Palace,Puerta del Sol. Major ones among them are Plaza Mayor Plaza, the de Oriente and Plaza de España.
To add to the splendour of Madrid there are many places to name few Palacio RealMadrid(royal Palace);Alhambra, Granada;Palau Nacional, Barcelona;Palacio de Cristal, Madrid;Palacio Real de la Granja de San Ildefonso, San Ildefonso;Palacio de Cibeles, Madrid;Palacio Real de Aranjuez, Aranjuez;Palacio de Carlos V, Granada. Of these important or rather we saw Royal Palace and Palau Naional.
Madrid's extensive and beautifully maintained parks and gardens –like the Retiro park, formerly the recreational estate to the Spanish monarchs, the Casa de Campo and the Juan Carlos I park– offer inhabitants and visitors the chance to enjoy the sunshine, stroll, row on its lakes or feed the squirrels, in one of the greenest capitals in Europe.
Another striking feature whch sets Madrid apart from other Europian cities are numerous buildings with fantastic and beautiful statues on the roof tops. You will find plenty in this blog ,which I was able to photograph.
A bonus which Kesari did not plan, was to see Fountain of Neptune.Photos of which I took from moving coach and walking when going prom one place to the other.
FOUNTAIN OF NEPTUNE
We really never saw it at close range.Going around from destination to destination passed this magnificiant fountain and took photo opportunity.
Fountain of Neptune.Photo courtesy esmadrid.com

This image is the best I could manage,
Fountain of  Neptune is one of the most beautiful and majestic fountains of Madrid. The God occupies prominent position within Greek mythological hierarchy.
At one time Fountain of Neptune and Fountain of Cebeles(another magnificent fountain)placed facing each other on either side of the Paseo del Prado. At the end of the 19th century, both Cybele and Neptune underwent a restoration process and were moved, finally occupying the centre of the squares Plaza de la Cibeles and Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo, respectively.
Monument shows a carriage in the form of a shell emerging from a rocky base and is pulled by two hippocampi, symbol of storms and agitated sea. The sculpture represents the god of the sea with his trident upon a chariot, pulled by two sea horses.

That was the best shot of the fountain I could manage.Other photos were taken either from a moving coach or from  roadside footh path walking around in a jostling crowd of other tourists and locals.Quite a few others taken while walking along on a footpath in large crowds or from moving coach. They are in album
After lunch we were taken to see Prado Museum.
PRADO MUSEUM
PRADO MUSEUM
The Prado Museum is the crown jewel of one of the capital’s most visited tourist itineraries: the Paseo del Arte (Art Walk).walls of Prado are lined with masterpieces from the Spanish, Italian and Flemish schools, including Velázquez’ Las Meninas and Goya’s Third of May, 1808. Its collection comprises  about 7,600 paintings, 1,000 sculptures and over 13,000 drawings, prints, medals, decorative arts, historic documents and other works of art.
The Prado Museum houses the most comprehensive collection of Spanish painting in the world. Start your visit in the 11th century, contemplating the Mozarabic murals from the Church of San Baudelio de Berlanga. Then move on to the canvases painted by Bartolomé Bermejo, Pedro Berruguete, Juan de Juanes or Luis de Morales to trace a timeline from Spanish-Flemish Gothic painting to the Renaissance. The galleries devoted to El Greco display some of his most notable works such as The Knight with his Hand on his Breast and The Holy Trinity.
The Spanish Golden Age is represented through works by Ribera, Zurbarán and Murillo, which explain the context that triggered Velázquez's work. His most important paintings Las Meninas and The Seamstresses are also on display here. Featuring works from the 18th and 19th centuries, the Goyagalleries include the tapestry cartoons he created for the Royal Tapestry Factory, to the Black Paintings he painted on the walls of his house La Quinta del Sordo (Deaf-Man's Villa). You will also find rooms dedicated to 19th century art, which include works by Fortuny, Federico and Raimundo Madrazo and Sorolla.
You need at least couple of days ,if you really want to see all the items of display.Photography is prohibited inside so I have photos of outside only.

Statue of Goya.Prado Museum,Madrid.
Appropriately, the reclining statue, at the base ,based on voluptuous nude Maja,is,I think a tribute to the immortal creation of the painter.
