1983- Delhi Trip

The blog was written between 1 and 7 October 2020.

Irrespective of the date when the map was made and the blogged, It has been published backdated, to maintain historical sequence.
These backdated blogs are written as much to record our travels and places seen all those years in the past, as they are to present a photographic record of the growth of Ajeet and Anuj through those early years.

This is a screenshot of The map for our Delhi trip. In addition to tourist locations visited by us, it also gives locations of the Mess where we stayed, Anil's house, and Investiture Parade Ground and SP - 6, our home in Sulur.
But these details can not be accessed here. These can be accessed in "interactive" google map.  Navigate through the interactive map to follow the Delhi trip.

October 1983 - Delhi Trip
Background.
My award of VM was announced on 26 January 1983. Presentation of the VM and VSM medals was to be done at investiture parade to be held on 8 October 1983, Air Force Day and Anniversary.
Authority for me to travel to Delhi to attend the investiture parade was received in due course. Authority also included permission for the spouse to travel in entitled class. As we would have to purchase 1st class tickets for Ajeet and Anuj we decided that all of us will travel in sleeper class. Reimbursement of Mummy’s first-class fare would partly make up for Ajeet Anuj fare. I also travelled in sleeper class with a 1st class ticket.

Trip details.

In the absence of any records, the information is very sketchy.  Even the dates and duration of our trip cannot be recalled now. We had taken photos but they are of no help as the photos do not carry date and time stamp.
We only had a click III box camera. It was a basic camera which could just take a photo at the fixed shutter speed and focus. Obviously, it could not record date nor had any other settings/specifications. It used a chemically treated paper roll of 12 exposures. After exposure, the paper roll was washed in a dark room. A 'negative' was made. From this negative was developed a photo seen in our old albums.
Between the two of us, mummy and I, we could not remember start or end dates of the trip. Nor do we remember the duration of our stay in Delhi. Of course, we were there on 8 October 1983.
Information contained here is almost 100% based on Mummy’s memories as her recall is much better than mine which is almost nil.
I remember attending a few meetings and three or four practice parades. Judging by that and a day for Delhi Darshan, in all probability we may have stayed there for 5-6 days.
