Leh Ladakh Trip. Khardungla - Hunder Road Trip.

Leh Ladakh Trip. Khardungla - Hunder Road Trip.

11 August 2024.

Our Leh Trip.
The road trip continues.
After spending about half an hour at Khardungla Pass, we got into our vehicles and commenced our journey from Khardungla to Hunder. There were two stops en route.
One at Milkha Point and, the other at
Diksit Maitreay Buddha Statue.
As we proceeded and went further we were leaving the Ladakh mountain range and entering the areas of Karakoram Range. Gradually the nature of the mountains changed. The most noticeable difference is in the colour. Whereas the Ladakh range was mainly in shades of brown, the Karakoram Range was blackish and of slate colour. In fact in Ladakhi 'Karakoram' means 'black'. Another noticeable difference was many places road almost hugged the waters of the Shyojk River and the appearance of an abundance of sand and vast tracts of desert-like sand dunes. Smart entrepreneurs had taken advantage and opted to open adventure sports facilities like ATV and Sand Buggy rides and high altitude ziplines.
Then we reached Milkha Point. Some scenes of the Film "Bhag Milkha Bhag were shot around this place. Today the place has a Milkha Food Point restaurant and Milkha Point ATV ride facility.
I had never ridden an ATV. It cost Rs 1300. I remember our Egypt trip when due to cost factors we did not go for a hot air balloon ride. Thereafter, there was no opportunity where we could go for a hot air balloon ride. We had decided then, that in future we would not be deterred by the cost. By God's grace today we can afford anything within a reasonable limit. So, Decide to do it. A Video was taken by the safety person and put up on the FB page. After we left Milkha Point, the valley broadened quite a bit. Reached the confluence of Shyok and Nubra River. This is the river after this valley is named. A giant statue of Buddha is visible from far. The location of this statue was our next halt point.
Rached Maitreya Buddha statue at Diskit. This is located near Diskit Monastery which is supposed tp be the oldest in Ladakh. We did not visit the monastery but spent a pleasant time at the Maitreya Buddha statue at Diskit.  It is a very beautiful and grand sight. After leaving the Maitreya Buddha statue at Diskit next halt was Hotel Ldumra Oasis where our accommodation for the night was booked. After freshening up we went to visit Sand Dunes of Hunder. Here again, the locals have plenty of games and sports to offer to the visitors. Photos will give you a good idea of all the things on offer. We climbed the dunes and had a whale of a time. Plus plenty of photos.
After taking sampling all that Hunder Sand Dune Adventure Park had to offer we returned to the hotel and called it a day.
Do go through the captions of the photos.
Some are repeated, but many interesting tidbits from Google are included in captions giving information about the object of the photo.
